Charming 3BR House In Nature But Walkable - Furnished | House in San Anselmo
3 Bedroom House in San Anselmo
Short-term furnished house rental: June 1 - August 16, 2026
THE DAILY RATE IS MUCH LESS THAN SHOWN -- RENT AT THAT RATE FOR 28 DAYS AND GET THE FULL 2.5 MONTHS. (We want a single renter for this exact date range, but VRBO doesn't allow that done in a more direct way.)
A wonderful San Anselmo house on a hill with gorgeous valley views -- but still walkable for most mobile people. About midway between downtown San Anselmo and downtown Fairfax.
Our offer is rigid, but is one that you might not be able to refuse: You get a furnished, well-located house for about 60% of its value if you agree to:
-- Renting for the entire, exact 2.5-month date range of our trip away: June 1 - August 16, 2026 (only book for June on VRBO, but get the full 2.5 month date range).
– The place won’t be fully cleared out and properly prepped as it would for a full-priced rental. We would rather rent the place as-is for a lower charge than fully prep it for a traditional rental. All the spaces are quite "full," especially with kids' stuff (our boys are 3 and 5). The house will be clean and things will be fairly tidy, but as you can see in the one and only recent photo (the one showing the piano), there's an abundance of stuff, such as that on top of and stored under the piano, for example. In comparison to a normal rental, it might be considered cluttered, relatively speaking. Only a limited amount of hanging space in the closets will be cleared out to be available for you.
– NO SMOKING Absolutely no smoking of tobacco or marijuana products is permitted within the house or even anywhere remotely within the vicinity of the overall house. It permeates the entire house and could also permeate to the in-law apartment, which will have non-smoking guests.
– NO PETS.
– You agree to water a few plants weekly, bring in our mail a few times a week, and roll the trash/recycling/compost bins out to the street every Thursday.
– You must be able to walk down, and back up, an exterior flight of stairs, since the main entrance is one flight down from the street level (plus, there's an interior flight, since two bedrooms, including the master bedroom, are on the lower of two floors).

ABOUT THE PHOTOS, WHICH ARE MOSTLY OLD:
Other than the one photograph of the living room that shows the piano, all the photos here are from before we moved in four years ago -- so the furniture is different (including the deck furniture), and the place is more full/cluttered overall.
Notes on the piano, Peloton, and wood stove (all shown within the one recent photo). The piano has been pounded and stomped upon by toddlers, and not tuned for three years -- you're welcome to play it "at your own risk". :) The Peloton would require a separate discussion with my wife if you would like to ask to use it. But in any case, there is also a recumbent stationary bike in the garage that you are welcome to use.
Finally, we ask that you agree not to use the wood stove. We've never even tried it in the four years that we've lived here, so who knows what can of worms that could open? Besides, it will be summertime.
Note also that the two photos of the full exterior of the house show not only your two floors of the house, but also the third lower floor, which consists of the in-law apartment described below (rented out separately). The exterior photos also show the garage at the very top, which does not have room for a car (although there's space for a car in the driveway).
The deck is more full and less spacious than represented in the photos because there is now also a large trampoline there (which you are welcome to use).
The dryer shown is the same, but our newer washing machine is top-loading rather than front-loading.
Video of the place also available on request.

THE SEPARATE IN-LAW APARTMENT AND OUR CREDIBILITY AS HOSTS:
This is our first time renting out our house, but you can view our spotless 4.98/5.00-star ratings (and "superhost" status) of our house's in-law apartment, which we rent out separately (link on request).
Unless you also rent our in-law apartment, you should expect that there will be guests occupying that space during your stay. We have been renting out that in-law apartment continuously since we bought this house four years ago -- and have very rarely had any inconvenience or unacceptably loud noise from its guests. The one potential issue is that, once in a while, you can smell what they are cooking.
The in-law apartment has its own entrance. It is below the two-floor house that you are renting. To be clear, its own deck is separate; your deck is up at the house-entrance level, on the other side of the house (toward the street, but private in that it is one flight down from the street level).
In addition to the ratings of that in-law apartment, our credibility can be ascertained by (1) making an appointment to come meet us and see the house, and/or (2) checking me out as a best-selling author and former Columbia professor (Eric Siegel -- if professional credibility translates to organizational/home-organization credibility, which I'd argue is the case with me).
You are welcome to set a time with us to come by and see the place!

MORE OVERVIEW CONTENT:
Two-story house in a beautiful, quiet setting across from a nice park, yet walking-distance to both downtown San Anselmo & Fairfax.
One nice advantage of a house on a hill is that the main living space is on the upper floor -- two of the three bedrooms are downstairs. This means the main living space benefits from a nice high ceiling and skylights!
The house is on a quiet dead-end street with houses only on the down-hill side of the street. We're up the hill enough to feel separated from any busy streets, but not so far as to be cumbersome -- I bike a normal bike (not electric) up to the house every day. However, a couple times in the last four years we've had in-law apartment guests who don't like this kind of out-of-the-way setting, since the road is relatively narrow (but as far as windy mountain roads go, this is nothing in comparison to some of the other roads around Fairfax).
Near Memorial and Millennial Park, Redhill Shopping Center, and hiking trails. Directly across from the 14 acre open-space oak woodland of Faude Park.

There is a 3rd one that could be brought down from the garage (heavy). Since A/C's are only in a couple rooms, here is some info about the need for A/C (or lack of need, in general), in case you are not familiar with this neck of the woods. A/C is rarely needed in these parts. However, there are usually a few days each summer where you might really wish for A/C, depending on your predilections, so please keep that in mind when booking. Most days of the year, it is plenty cool. Even when it is fairly hot out, the lower floor itself tends to stay cooler, since it is lower and partly into the hill and so it stays relatively cool, kinda like a basement does. Furthermore, the nights usually get quite cool here, even on hot days. However, again, if you're here on one of the few really hot days each summer, the place will remain hot all night. There are some fans.
- CELL RECEPTION: The cell reception is very spotty, at least for AT&T, although fine for Verizon (not sure about other carriers). However, you can accommodate for this by using the WiFi on your phone. For example, at least with iPhones, you can turn on "WiFi calling" in your settings. We have AT&T/iPhone, and it's fine.
